Corazón Inquieto

The Project Corazón Inquieto has been founded by Bureau Connectie Bolivia and is focused on children and youngsters from the market neighborhood Gran Poder. After founding Fundacion Oficina de Conexion Bolivia the Foundation became responsible for the execution of the project. The neighborhood Gran Poder is well known as a neighborhood with a lot of problems. Every day appr. 10 new cases apply to Child Welfare, which have something to do with abuse/violence or neglection. There are a lot of problems with alcoholism and the families can barely keep their heads above water. A lot of children are with their mothers on the market, all day long. They play in a box or in the middle of all the merchandise. We think it would be good for these children, to play for several hours in a room especially made for little kids, where they can develop in the motorical, psychological and social area.

Daycare

The project offers daycare during the morning for children from 2 til 6 years old and in the afternoon from 6 til 13 years old. The children arrive in the morning between 8.30 and 9.00 o’clock and can stay till 12.00/12.30. Not all children come every single day. This is mostly because the mothers of these children do not sell at the market every day. The children get some breakfast every day and later on during the morning, they get a fruit snack. Different kinds of activities are organized, so that the children can develop themselves a little better. The children that arrive in the afternoon are welcome from 14.30 until 18.00. They get support with their homework and after that, recreation and sports activities are organized. It is very important to offer them a safe place, where they can be with kids of their own age.

What does ‘Corazón Inquieto’ mean?

Corazón Inquieto means Restless heart. Most of the volunteers and interns that come to La Paz, have a ´restless heart´. Most of them are looking for something. What is life like in a different culture, speaking another language, etc? Some of them like to travel for a year, as they do not really know what to do with their life just now, what kind of education they would like to do or because they have an opportunity NOW to do something else and travel abroad. Restless heart.

Yearplan

After we opened this project, we found out that it is necessary to have a good work plan. Together with the personel we made a nice and good yearplan.

Between mid July and the end of December 2006, a year plan for 2007 was written. We come together twice a month on Saturdays, to work on this plan, which has resulted in a great plan so far for 2007.

The plan states who and what ´Corazón Inquieto´ is and what the project stands for and for whom it is meant. Rules, etc have been put in the plan as well, to which everyone should oblige. Furthermore it states what the children will learn the rest of the year, how we will achieve that and how we will evaluate that. The coordinator and teacher of the project, works on this plan every month. In the monthly plan, it states what the most important topic for that month is, which activities will be done, what kind of material will be used, etc. This offers some structure and makes it clearly for the employees and interns/volunteers. In this way it is possible to work more methodically, so that these children can really develop themselves.

Come here as a volunteer or intern to help the project. Everyone that would like to work with children can join this project. If you are not really into organizing activities, you can always work with the program that has already been made. If you can organize some activities yourself, you can always discuss this with the coordinator. The coordinator is very flexible and really likes it when volunteers come up with ideas.

Support financially

Donators can deposit the amount of money that they would like to contribute.

Why not a specific amount? If we make it a specific amount, it is not always possible for everyone to contribute that amount. Some people are able to give more than others. We think about volunteering, that anyone with any kind of education should get an opportunity to do volunteer work. The same goes for people who want to donate some money, they should get this opportunity. Everyone can support the project in their own way.
