Volunteer-/ internship contract

Before starting to work, a volunteer or internship contract will be signed by Bureau Connectie Bolivia and the volunteer or intern. Agreements will be made concerning coaching and working in a project. The activities and working hours will be made with the project and the volunteer or intern. It is very important that all will be clear concerning the activities that the volunteer or intern will do.

Rights and obligations

As a volunteer and intern you will have certain rights and obligations. It goes without saying that the volunteer or intern has the same rights as any other employee, concerning safety and certain facilities. At the same time the volunteer or intern is obliged to stick to certain agreements. The fact that you are doing volunteer work does not mean that you can do anything you want.
Volunteers and interns are not being paid for their activities. But are expected to attend their activities at the correct times and advise when this is not possible.

Appointments and ´time´

It is commonly known that in most of the South-American countries, people deal with appointments and time, in a different way than in Western countries. A lot of things can happen, causing changes or cancellations to schedules and appointments. For the Bolivians this is quite normal and it is not always understood in Western countries get irritated by it. For us it is very normal to talk about these irritations, but do not expect immediate changes. Do not try to make too much of a problem and always bare in mind that certain activities may be cancelled or need to be changed to another hour.

By being in a different culture, you will find out that you will not only learn about different life-opinions, but as well of your own habits, culture and character. Try to see it as a useful learning process

If there are any problems

Except for coaching hours, which will often be held at our office, a staff member of Bureau Connectie Bolivia will come and visit you at the project where you will be working. Together with your project coach, we will discuss everything necessary. It is important to find time for these kinds of things. To avoid irritations and disappointments, it is very important to have open communication.

If you are not happy at the project where you are working, it is wise to tell us as soon as possible. We will of course first check if there are problems or misunderstandings which can be solved. If not, we will do the best we can to find you another project.
